A key element in transformational leadership is the ability to address cultural change. This breakout session, presented by Terry Holliday, the superintendent who guided Iredell-Statesville Schools to a 2008 Baldrige Award, will focus on key elements of change leadership and how to move an organization to performance excellence.

Presented by Terry Holliday, Commissioner of Education, Commonwealth of Kentucky & Former Superintendent, Iredell-Statesville Schools (2008 Baldrige Award Winner)

A2: Engaging the “Whole Team” for Success

10:30 – 11:45 a.m.

Don’t underutilize your greatest asset -- people!

All over the globe, people share the desire to “play in the game,” whatever that may be. Nobody wants to be on the sidelines watching others have fun. They want to be part of the team, experiencing the thrill of victory and the lessons of defeat.

Often the only thing keeping people from participating is understanding how to play or contribute. Thankfully, most of us had the good fortune of having someone who coached us or taught us how to participate. In our businesses, our workforces deserve no less!

In this session, presenter Steve Brooks will describe how to develop a culture focused on engaging people through a line-driven approach.

Presented by Steve Brooks, President Bridgestone Americas Manufacturing Group

A3: Creating a Focus on Performance Excellence

10:30 – 11:45 a.m.

At Poudre Valley Health System, steering committees called Performance Excellence teams develop key processes that are the foundation to our strategy for providing world-class health care. Learn how these teams are structured, defined and empowered to successfully develop initiatives that drive continuous improvement throughout the health system and keep the workforce engaged and motivated for long-term commitment.

Presented by Priscilla Nuwash, Director of Process Improvement, Poudre Valley Health System

A4: Come Fly with Me: Nashville International Airport’s journey toward excellence

10:30 – 11:45 a.m.

During this breakout, presenters will gather best practices from session participants, exploring how they manage their information and discuss how it is used to develop continuous improvement processes. He will then demonstrate his own organization’s process management approach.

Presented by Walt Matwijec, AVP Continuous Improvement, Metropolitan Airport Authority and John Vinyard, Managing Partner, GENITECT, LLC

A5: Put Baldrige Express into Action

10:30 – 11:45 a.m.

How can the Baldrige Express Survey tool and Feedback Report help your organization? Let the people who use it show you!

Aegis Sciences Corporation and the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service are using Baldrige Express to identify how employees view the effectiveness of their organizations and prioritize the most important opportunities for improvement. Based on this information, they develop action items that are then deployed and tracked throughout the companies to improve processes.

Presented by Darcie Duckworth, Quality Manager, Aegis Sciences Corporation and Charles E. Shoopman Jr., Assistant Vice President, University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service
