The University of Tennessee Medical Center wins Excellence Award

With UTMC, 19 organizations recognized by TNCPE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE) announced today that The University of Tennessee Medical Center has won the prestigious TNCPE Excellence Award. Since the TNCPE program was founded in 1993, only 23 organizations have attained the excellence designation. To do so, applicants must participate in a multi-step assessment, and exhibit world-class processes that serve as role models for others.

“The University of Tennessee Medical Center is committed to excellence and sustainability,” Gov. Bill Haslam said. “This award underscores the medical center’s efforts to continually serve its patients and community while performing as a leader in the health care industry.”

TNCPE also recognizes organizations on the path to excellence with Interest Recognition (Level 1), the Commitment Award (Level 2), and the Achievement Award (Level 3), each responding to a deeper level of assessment on the continuum toward an Excellence Award.

This year, 2 organizations will be honored with the TNCPE Achievement Award, 13 will receive the Commitment Award, and 3 will receive Interest Recognition. See a full list of 2016 TNCPE Award recipients.

The awards will be presented at the 24th annual Excellence in Tennessee Awards Banquet on March 2, 2017, at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs.

TNCPE uses the Baldrige Excellence Framework™ established by the national Baldrige Performance Excellence Program as its evaluation tool. “This program helps organizations look at the big picture and continuously strive to implement the best practices in their industry,” said TNCPE president Katie Rawls. “But it’s not easy – if it were, every organization in the state would be participating. Our 2016 award winners are truly passionate about performance excellence and have chosen TNCPE and the Baldrige framework to help them become the best they can be.”

The Tennessee program, which is itself widely recognized as a national and international role model, is open to all businesses and industries as well as public and private educational institutions, health care organizations, government agencies and other non-profit entities.

Established in 1993 as a public-private partnership, the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence strives to promote economic development and drive organizational excellence by helping companies and organizations grow more competitive in today’s global marketplace through affordable, in-depth assessments. A statewide nonprofit, TNCPE is grounded in the Baldrige Excellence Framework—a holistic framework used by organizations across multiple industries to improve their performance and achieve sustainable results. More than 1,300 organizations have participated in and benefited from the TNCPE program. Four Tennessee businesses—Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation, Pal’s Sudden Service, Eastman Chemical Company, and Federal Express—have received both the prestigious Baldrige National Quality Award and the TNCPE Excellence Award.
